Oatmeal Candy

My mom always made these for us when we were little. She made them for my dad when they first met, and he called them "little chocolate turds". I finally got the recipe from her and made them myself. They aren't healthy, or pretty, but they should satisfy your sweet tooth.
Oatmeal Candy

2 cups sugar
2 huge Tablespoons peanut butter
2 cups quick cook oats
1/3 cup cocoa
1 stick butter
1/2 cup milk

Melt together sugar, milk, butter and cocoa. Bring to a full boil and time it for one minute. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter (2 big scoops). Then stir in the oats and let it sit for 15 minutes. Scoop them out with an ice cream scoop onto wax paper and let them set up.

They are awesome with a glass of cold milk!

  1. Holy cannoli Danman! My mom and sister made these as well... the same things, maybe even exactly the same. These treats were a HUGE part of my life when I lived at home. HUGE! The whole no-bake approach made them even more appealing. Sometimes I wouldn't even let them finish curing and carelessly would schlep up the still-molten slag, the sound of burning flesh hissing from my mouth, yet still enjoying them to the fullest. You sir have jogged my memory something fierce and will make it my duty to enter these into the household cookie roster as a force to be milked with.

  2. These have jogged my memory as well. I used to make them in boarding school when I was a teenager because our dorm kitchen had a stove and no oven - we called them No Bake Cookies. Not healthy, not pretty, but oh so delicious to brain-food starved students!
